Dawsonville Georgia City Government
Dawsonville is governed by an elected Mayor/City Council form of government in which office holders serve four year terms. The Mayor’s function is similar to that of a corporate chief executive officer and the Mayor reports directly to the City Council. The City Council is responsible for enacting ordinances, establishing city policies and appointing the City Attorney, the City Clerk, the City Auditor and several other administrative positions.

Any resident of Dawsonville who has resided in the city for at least one year prior to an election is eligible to serve as a City Council member or as Mayor. Candidates must be registered to vote and must also meet certain specified qualification standards. The Police Department
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for enforcing laws in Dawsonville and Dawson County. 120 employees within the Sheriff’s Office work in the Patrol/Warrants Division, Criminal Investigations, Detention, and in the Communications/E-911 Center. The Patrol/Warrants Division employs 22 full time police officers who patrol Dawson County 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Community based programs offered by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office include the Junior Law Enforcement Academy, the Explorer Program and the Citizens Police Academy.
