Christmas Open House at Amicalola State Park/Lodge
Saturday, December 5, 2009
Winter in the north Georgia mountains heralds in a season of hayrides, warm fires, gingerbread house creations, visiting artists, musical performances, and of course a visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus at Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge Christmas Open house on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.
Skip the traffic and the malls and gather with family and friends to enjoy this annual old-fashioned holiday event in Dawsonville. Stay for just a day, or overnight at The Lodge at Amicalola Falls—a 57-room hideaway—that serves home-style buffets in its window-lined Maple restaurant with a stunning view of the mountains and towering trees. Call 706.265-8888 for more information.
No matter the season, a visit to Amicalola Falls State Park and lodge features many natural wonders like the 729-foot falls— the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River— that the Cherokee Indians named Amicalola, meaning, “tumbling waters.”
There is also an 8.5-mile approach trail leading from the park to Springer Mountain—the southern end of the 2,135-mile Appalachian Trail—as well as several other shorter trails that visitors can enjoy for additional leisurely hikes through Amicalola State Park.
